Getting A Copy of VMware's Virtualization Software
Step 1: Getting Virtualization Onto Your Computer (VMware)
Since the goal is to create an environment, which won't potentially screw up your working desktop/server/laptop/etc, we will want to create the Japanese game playing environment within the confines of a virtualized environment.
The added benefit of this is that you will be able to use this portable environment on your Windows/Linux/MacOSX systems, without too much concern for underlying upgrades or OS updates/changes. Switching from Ubuntu to Fedora Core, or vice versa? No problem. Upgrading from Windows XYZ to Windows 123? No problem. Going to do a clean re-install of MacOSX? Go right ahead. Your portable gaming environment will remain intact and can be run, when you finish re-installing your VMware Virtualization software.
Building the Kira Game Virtual Machine
Kira's Game Virtual Machine
Utilizing VMware's Fusion(MacOSX/Intel), Workstation(Windows/Linux), Server(Windows/Linux), or Player(Windows/Linux), one is able to create an environment for the running of Japanese Date-Sim/Games. Typically, this has required the use of DOS/V or Windows JA. However, there are a variety of ways to run your Japanese game/application on your system, with some tweaks.
In addition, for those who do not have or choose not to run Windows, the operating system, on their Linux/MacOSX box, they can opt to create the Linux flavor of the Kira Game Virtual Machine.
Originally, I had a complete VMDK image of the Windows based system, ready to go. However, due to the licensing issues of MicroSoft's product, that was a no-go.
So... where is it!?
Thanks to an abrupt requirement to switch hosting providers(my web load kept putting me into the "over utilizing CPU, page temporarily locked" state. So, I've moved to a different hosting provider, which provides more processing power. :)
As such, I will be re-publishing my Virtual Machine building instructions, using VMware's software. For those who are using other similar virtualization products, the majority of the instructions will work, save for where configuration of VMware's software is concerned.
